Below see the interview with casting director Robyn Kass, courtesy of my good friend, Matt, at Big Brother Network:
Every Big Brother preseason we’re flooded with auditioning questions on how to apply, nail the audition, and end up in the BB House. While I’d consider myself quite the Big Brother connoisseur and a dedicated fan since the first season I’ll be the first to admit that when it comes to casting the best reality show evah, I only know what I’ve gleaned from those more adventurous than me.
So, armed with a stack of the most often asked casting questions and my own curiosities of what goes on behind the curtain, I turned to Big Brother Casting Director Robyn Kass of Kassting Inc., who graciously agreed to be interviewed and share her unmatched insight.

It would be nice if being a stripper didn’t seem like a resume requirement for this show.
I hear that, Anne! You know, we fans have begged for years, for them to bring “real” people back. Go back to basics. They may have called it that last year, but it wasn’t real. I don’t think most true-blue fans give a rat’s butt what the contestants LOOK like. We want some brains–not brawn. Some conniving, wily females, instead of pin-up models.
Speak up if you agree!!
Or if you don’t!
totally agree i want real people not models
I loved the last season. Not just because it was my first season, either. I liked Brittney because she was sweet but devious. I liked Rachel, because she was a biatch, and a a sluut and brought much needed Drama to the show. She made it fun.
I’m sending in my app and video today as a REAL person: former school teacher, military brat with no ties to Hollywood or former houseguests (I hate that!). My background and personality would definitely make me a finalist but being a tiny bit “overweight” in their opinion (I wear a size 14!! GASP!) is what will get me cut. So cross your fingers.
Eve. I am on the same page as you, they should put all sizes, all walks of life, big small, smart, mediyoker, whatever, not all hollywood, crap!!!!!!!!!!!!, I will be looking for you Eve……..Gina
Thank you! Still waiting for the call! Video arrived Monday!
I hope you certainly not quit! This is often one of seraevl most beneficial blogs Ive at any time read. Youve obtained some mad skill right here, male. I just hope that you simply dont reduce your model given that youre absolutely one of many coolest bloggers around. Be sure to hold it up as the world wide web expectations people like you spreading the term.
Please pick a homeless man & women this year.
And give them a real chance at a new life.
They would fight to the very end……
I personally think they all should be picked from the homeless communities.
Instead of mostly already well off adluts……..
They would love some PB & J.
And any bed you gave them or the flour….
My Husband & I have watched Big Brother every year.
It Is a great show every year………
We both are in our 50’s an the show is great we can’t hardly wait each year for it to return.
Our favorite shows are Big Brother & American Idol.
I think a change is needed, just to spice it up a bit. I think an interesting twist would be that the POV holder got to pick the replacement nominee instead of the HOH. This would give more incentive to use the POV instead of so many times it’s not even used and would mix up the dynamics of the game. Just a thought.
That’s a really good idea!!!
Love it! You’re so right!
I love Big Brother! I really don’t care who they pick, I just like the drama that occurs. it’s funny to see how much time it takes for people to figure it out! I’m so glad it’s coming back!!!!
Please, please cast normal people in BB13… Watching Barbie and Ken over and over again is getting boring. Pretty/handsome is good, but for the love of God, please make this season have a majority of non-Hollywood wannabees.
I LOVE IT AND I HOPE THEY PICK OTHER PEOPLE BESIDES HOMELESS ONES REALLY ???? I LOVE THE SHOW
My comment is regarding the Big Brother after dark. I wish they would do it the way they used to, and have the live feeds show the same night they happen. Last year we never even got to see the first night in the house, and it sucks knowing ahead of time who already won a competition. I liked it all much better when it was actual live footage after the actual live feeds for the big brother after dark.
@lori- I believe that only happens the 3-4 days prior to the premiere. They do play the first HG comp before the show premieres.
That does suck- I totally agree, because after three days there could be all kinds of behind the scenes shenanigans afoot.
Thank you, @lori you have given me a wonderful topic for the next post!
I’ve watched every episode of every season but the last couple of years were more difficult to stick with. I really dislike the gimmicky people you’ve cast. You cast the show like your casting a reality show. I don’t want that, I don’t want to be constantly reminded that each person is part of a show. I want to see real people types. Real people dealing with an unusual situation. I have 100’s of channels this year, give me some real reality.
I agree with having more REAL people on the show. I’ve watched every season and dragged more people into it over the years. This is truly the ONLY “reality” show I watch.
I love the show but I think they should have real people and perhaps one season with kids not adults
Well I have read all the comments and just want to say I’ve audition and I feel I’ m a very real person that need a life change so pls everyone pray to see me..
I consider myself to be a true fan of Big Brother. I have watched from the very first show of the very first season. I must admit i worry every season that it will not come back and hold my breathe until it is confirmed. I suppose i would watch no matter the players involved. In fact i know i would, but i must agree with alot of you. They should have a more rounded cast of player’s. You know like “Chicken George” and someone like “Haydon”, just a variety of all walks of life. It makes you get more involved and want to cheer on the underdog.
@melinda- Boy, I agree with you, but I wonder if the producers will? The thing is, the ratings have gone up and up over the last few seasons- and if you’ve noticed, the HG’s get crazier and crazier-
IS there a connection there?? You guys tell me!
Well Janet, i guess its like a train wreck, people just have to watch, LOL!
Big Brother only a couple months away?? I can finally sleep at night! Addicted for years now! I do pray we may see more of the average Jo this season. Because all of us have a bit of a bully in us… always cheering for the popular kids! Go nerds! Clearing my schedule for Big Brother … NOW!!
please please please no more returning of previous players! we have had our fill of this, especialy on the tv show survivor, and this show.it takes away from the die hard viewers and we loose interest
Boy you have got that right Kevin. We could all stand to see some fresh faces on Survivor, to cheer on or hate, LOL! If i have to look at Russell’s smug face or listen to him through one more season, i will scream! We call him the “Troll” in our house.
To realy shake things up and add to the paranoia, for one week(the hg’s have to be aware, but not know when) they should give the power to the evictee of being able to drag one hg (Hoh and POV winners excepted)of their choice out the house with them.Because as it stands now,one the Hoh has their mind made up that they want a certain hg gone through their noms,it’s all for certain that they are.At least this way theres’ drama past the pov ceremony.
