Big Brother 2013 Racism: Should They Be Kicked Out Or Not? (POLL)
|It is Monday afternoon and we are just waiting for the Power of Veto Ceremony to take place sometime today in the Big Brother 2013 house, but until then let’s start up a friendly conversation among our Big Brother 15 family! So, the big issue on Big Brother 2013 has been the racist and homophobic statements that have come out of the mouths of many of the HouseGuests this season. CBS even put up a disclaimer on the Live Feeds and on the show last night about the comments being made and watch at your own discretion. So, should CBS kick out the HouseGuests that have made these comments or should they stay on Big Brother 2013? Take our Big Brother 2013 poll below!
Here are my thoughts (and don’t let it sway your votes), but I feel they should stay in the house. Why? This is a reality TV show and what are seeing on that TV screen or computer screen is real life. There are no scripts and no filters. These ignorant people are being themselves and it is a sad display to see in the year 2013. Problem is: this goes on around the world every day and it is always covered up someway or somehow.
Save 30% over last year and order your Live Feeds today!!!
Discrimination and hate is alive and well in this world and for me, this shines a light on the subject. Many people thought racism was gone or homophobia is gone. I mean, the Supreme Court allowed gay marriage, so everyone accepts the gays now, right? WRONG!!!
Am I disgusted by what these girls are saying? Yes! Do I think they should go home because of it? No! The incident between Candice, GinaMarie and Aaryn last night on Big Brother 2013 was despicable and I give props to Candice for not slapping either of them in the face. The moment between Candice and Howard after the huge blowup and he carried her out of the room was beyond amazing. It was touching and brought a tear to many eyes that were watching.
When all is said and done, these people will have to deal with their actions in the Big Brother 15 house when they join the real world again. Jobs lost, friends lost and a big white light shining on them as people I do not want to associate with. The world is now talking about the issue and people are riled up about it, but that is a good thing. Keep those talks going and maybe it will change the way certain people think or talk about other human beings.
Just my thoughts, but share your thoughts in the comments and vote in our poll here:

Leaving through the game is not enough….. This cannot be tolerated….. To allow Arryn in particular to stay is to give tacit consent that it is ok. We have removed folks for threatening, shoving etc…. This is far worse….
I agree! CBS is allowing this to continue. Aaryn needs to be removed and possibly GinaMarie. Howard and Candice are showing a lot of class. Their self-control is admirable. Keep your eyes on the prize Howard and Candice!
omg yes especially the way she acted right after the eviction that was so crazy ah hello ! he is just one the players in this game?
I agree. Aaryn and GinaMarie have made some racial statements which I find to be completely disrespectful. What bothers me the most is Aaryn stated when confronted about some of her racial comments, is what she said in response to them. “I really don’t care”. Come on! You’re on national television! Same with GinaMarie. If they were my daughters, I’d be absolutely mortified and probably go into hiding because of their horrible behavior. Sad part is, they’re being themselves. Either they were raised by parents who are racist, or they somehow learned from some other outside source to become racist, is truly pathetic. I was raised to be “color blind”. I often wonder if these girls remember their nasty comments are being heard on national television, and they just don’t care. I do know one thing for sure. When they’re evicted, and they will be, the outside world, especially their own communities certainly won’t be exactly kind to them. I hope they don’t expect it either. So, that said, Aaryn and GinaMarie, when you see these message boards, don’t cry and feel like you two are the victims here. You two have victimized the people you were living with, total strangers. All that for no apparent reason. Shame on yourselves.
Or was she put on the show on purpose? Makes for “good” TV. I think not. I don’t enjoy watching her.
I’m wondering the same thing since the network/show is allowing her to stay.
I’m curious too. Look at the latest blog entry….Julie Chen discusses BB racism on The Talk. Um, good ratings for TWO shows???
I’m curious too. Look at the latest blog entry….Julie discusses BB racism on The Talk. Um, good ratings for TWO shows???
I think arryn & gina marie should be kicked off bb.It’s appauling to here what they say & look at there attitude coming through.
I think they should stay on the show but be put on the spot as soon as they come out.
Julie spoke of these comments on The
Talk today. She agreed that though they made her angry, it shows that there are still plenty of people like this around. I can’t wait for Aaryn to see the tape of Julie calling her ignorant.
Altough I agreed with most of the posts that said that CBS should have removed them from the house, I do agree with Todd. For this to still be an issue in 2013, and for Aaryn to not be cognizant of her behavior is why she should stay and be evicted as the other HGs. I believe that Aaryn will get her just desserts when she gets out of the house. Trust me, her behavior there will have a great impact on her life moving forward.
Howard, Candice & Aaryn’s (and GM) lives will never be the same again, whether they know it yet or not. Although maybe they didn’t sign on for these side effects, I believe Howard and Candice will benefit outside the house for showing their better character in the house. And we already know Aaryn’s in for a rude awakening! Before this season, most of the “notorious” characters were rewarded; maybe this time the good guys will get elevated to a higher status. We can hope so!
im sorry, she said she wasn’t a rasist, this is what happens when you put other race together and they are living together not just for 30 min. for them to fire her from modeling all I can say who care she is a fox and other people will hire her
I hope they get much worse when they meet outside the house. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior. mark, if I said the ocean was red, does that make it so. Looks will only get her so far
Are you saying that people of different races can’t coexist peacefully in the same environment? You’re partially right. They can’t as long as one considers itself superior to the other. Equality does NOT mean equal as long as we are of the same race. It means equal EVEN THOUGH we are of different races.
Yes indeed, Aaryn SAID she’s not a racist. Ummm…i think actions speak louder than words. And hers is speaking VOLUMES! As for getting another job…probably so. In fact i’ve got a job to give her. I need some ditches dug and i have a shovel with her name on it. She would do quite well i’m sure since she’s an expert at shoveling the shit.
Yes Mark, she said she was not a racist. However, her actions have shown this to be a lie…..as they say, actions speak louder than words. Worst of all, is that she has no clue of how repulsive her behavior is. Just because she doesn’t believe she is a racist, does not mean she is not one. She seems to be a very delusional young lady.
I have extremely mixed feelings on what CBS should do about Aaryn especially. I’m not sure a disclaimer is enough. She needs to be given a stern warning that she will be asked to leave the house if she continues her racial slurs. On the other hand, I want to see the house guests take care of it. Get her out of the house and let her face the consequences in the real world. She needs a serious wake up call!! I’m a long time fan of the show and if Aaryn makes it through another week, I’ll stop watching til she’s gone.
Don’t stop watching. Cheer for Howard and Candice – THEY deserve it. VOTE MVP for the person who will get the bad characters OUT ASAP!
I agree with you Lilly. I think Candice should get the MVP because she was the first to suspect that there was an all guys alliance.
Well, Carole, I like both Candice and Amanda. But I’m going to vote for THE person who is most determined to get Aaryn and/or GM OUT. If that’s Elissa, fine. But we need to quit voting Elissa that power just because of who she is. The house needs to take it more seriously and know that someone will get it for their GAME play. So I’m going to make my decision based on who I think will get Aaryn OUT on Sunday. I just can’t abide by the idea that Aaryn or GM could get any where near the money!
Lilly I agree with you on the MVP voting for who deserves it for game play and who will use it to get out the cancers in the house. However, I have to disagree with you on Elissa getting it because of who she is. She did the first week, then after that it was because of the evil ones gunning for her for no other reason than who her sister was and they were scared of what they don’t know. Not sure what happened with the vote this week. I believe it should of went to Amanda or Candice since Helen had HOH. We will see how the votes go this week. I hope that America votes for the person that will get rid of one of the bad seeds and not use for pawns.
Jo1, You and I are on the same page with that. I voted Elissa the second week precisely because her targeting was unfair. Last week, though, I voted Amanda because Helen was the other best player but was HOH. We just need to spread this philosophy around in order to overcome the Rachel army out there that is making the MVP irrelevant. Pure and simple, we HAVE to give the power to the person who will evict the racist thugs. I would vote for Elissa again if that applied to her. (I like her MUCH more than her sister!)
agreed lily. I think everyone should wait to vote until after the HOH results! We definitely have to work the vote and spread the word! 🙂
sadly she thinks she has done nothing wrong.
Your right kc.And that is the very reason why she should have already been removed. Her and GM didn’t just make these slurs that one time. They continue to make them. This behavior is no different than Hanz chest butting Joe last season.IT IS WRONG! So they need to remove Aaryn now.If not,Candice and Howard will eventually get enough and then it will be really bad.And that is not fare to them,as they are doing nothing wrong. My MVP vote will be between Candice or Howard. Then i know that Aaryn will be gone for sure.I wish all BB fans could see Aaryn and GM,and Howards faces when they find out their fate, for their actions in the house.
I think both Aaryn and GeneMarie should remain in the house until they are evicted; because, they need to know the scorn by other house guests, and how it feels to be singled out and shunned for their actions. Maybe they will think twice before they subject their bigoted attitude to others in the future.
It will be fun to see them get booed when they walk out the door after they’re evictions.
oh yes it will, should be good to watch, and what a wake up call
I just hope that once they are evicted that CBS doesn’t make the crowd applaud for them. Let them boo so that we know it’s real.
I hope CBS allows Julie to confront them upon their eviction.I would like to her what they say to her.I don’t believe they could bully her.I would boo them weather they allowed it or not.
I realize this is a reality show. I also realize that discrimination still exists. But when people in the real world verbally or physically descrimate against others, they could loose their job,be removed from school or public activities, etc. These people in the Big Brother house have no one to turn to for support or even have somewhere else to go. They just have to deal with it for 3 months. It is a GAME and no one should have to put up with that. If they are not removed, it will reflect upon CBS for allowing it to continue.
And yet they DO have somewhere to go – the kind people in the house and even the diary room. At least in the BB house they have one guarantee that does NOT exist outside it: it will never get physical or the other person would be removed.
I think that kind of behavior is just a bad a getting physical.
amen bmom
You know, you both may be right. I’m white and haven’t been subjected to racism – though I was bullied a great deal through junior high. That affected me to this day, but I’d like to think it made me a better person in some ways. I’m just a believer in “that which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” And for the first time BB has a chance to be a show with some substance. So that the people inside and outside the house may actually LEARN something. I want Aaryn and GM (and Jeremy) GONE and I hate that the minorities in the house are having to put up with this crap, but I don’t want a heavy-handed CBS either. If they dictate everyone’s actions to a great extent, what is that worth? Then, just bring on all the pretty, mindless, fake people you want because that’s all it will be about.
BB needs to stop with the bring in the drama and sexy people and let the next season be a mix of all types and ages of people. Pretty soon it will be like american idol, where you can only be on if your under 28 I think it is. I would love to see a mixture of REAL people on there. Not just Kens and barbies who want an acting or modeling career or a showmance! Bring on the Chicken Georges, Gerrys, Howies, Kaysars, Danielles season 3, Juns, Cowboys, Keishas, even Evil Dicks and Mike boogies….LOL
They can have a great cast if they actually did real looking. Stop looking for cast at modeling agencies and such places. Geez give us a break.
This has been the craziest season ever with all the racial slurs. I think Aaron and the others should be removed from the BB house. Also, what is up with them dissing on Elissa just because she is Rachels Sister. It makes no sense. I hope they get what is coming to them.
Aaryn is very young an was obviously raised in a racism excepted environment, and the way she treated Candace, Helen, and everybody else in the house with her behavior there’s no excuse for it. How ever I believe that she is very immature an the comments don’t come from a intense inner racist place, but were just stupid comments that she may have made around family or friends back home who accepted that type of humor. I think it will be an awakening for Aaryn an hopefully change her life for the better. If I was going to be furious towards anybody it would be Aaryn’s Mother and Father who should be ashamed of themselves.
Although I agree with you Jason that Aaryn in young and immature, I don’t agree that her parents should take the blame. Aaryn appears to be a well educated young lady of the 21st century. She may be insensitive to people of other races, but once she was told of how she’s being portrayed to the world, one would have thought that a more intelligent mind would have prevailed, and she would have considered Amanda’s warnings. Instead, she twisted Amanda’s efforts to deflect from herself.
I totally agreed with Amanda when she told Aaryn to stop victimizing herself, and that she is the only one who has control over what comes out of her mouth.
Even her apology to Candice was lame and insincere….She was not the least bit convincing…as a matter of fact, Aaryn somehow managed to twist her apology to Candice by saying that Candice took her comments the wrong way….not that she was wrong for saying what she said.
Aaryn is just a very mean spirited person, and I’m enjoying the fact that she is now getting a taste of what it feels like to be a minority.
spot on Carole. Yes she is young and ignorant but she is also mean and spiteful. Hence the bed flipping episode amongst other things…
Just rotten to the core.
I totally agree Carole. The apology that wasn’t will go down in BB history.
I’ve been thinking that too. Yes, she says racist things that have no place in decent society. But I think she’s more of a spoiled brat who bullies other people – a true “mean girl” – and the way she talks to minorities is just the form it takes with them. For example, she didn’t dump over Candice’s bed BECAUSE she is black. She was just being a brat who lost the vote, was dethroned from the HOH room, and was acting out. Candice just happened to be black. That would explain why she honestly doesn’t think she IS racist. She is in for a really RUDE awakening when she leaves the house….
Jason… you have hit the nail on the head! Everyone else doesn’t really seem to see this and I hope that they will. There’s a stronger problem at hand than just Aaryn being immature and putting out the racial slurs. It’s her environment and if she is brought up in a racist home (parents, siblings, grandparents) however she was raised, it was wrong to do. The fact that she can’t see what she is doing is wrong is that she hasn’t adopted a World and Life View philosophy. She’s adopted only what her family has shown her and possibly some friends at home. I’m a Southern Calif. Gal and 53 and for me I grew up in a loving Christian home where my World and Life View included having a Korean family live in our house and be raised with them as our best friends and then when they went on to live in their own home, a Filipino family moved in with us and this continued through me graduating from college. I was immersed in having established my World and Life View at a very early age. These things are built in you and so hard to unlearn and learn new behaviors unless you are mature enough to see what your actions are doing and correct them. Thanks for your words! Carolyn
As a teacher for 17 years I taught all kinds of kids with various backgrounds and you have to love them where they are (like Helen is showing) and pray and hope that this experience will help her grown on her own and allow her to become mature WITH seeing this positive behavior around her.
She isn’t “rotten to the core” and how would people who say that about others like it if they were called that?
Helen is reinforcing positive behavior from Aaryn (just like a Mom or Dad should do for their children) and a TRUE caring person would do. She’s trying to pick out the positive things that she is doing and working with that to try to help Aaryn to save herself in this game. I didn’t mean to say that everyone here is seeing the negative only in Aaryn, just many of the responders. It was right for her to lose her job because of her comments.
I would be ok with being called that if that was how my actions were! She was addressed about the things she said and had no remorse whatsoever. I understand that this is a ‘ME’ generation and she could have possibly be brought up like that but that is no EXCUSE for how you choose to live your life as an adult. My mother was raised by a very racist father and yet she did not act that way and made it a point that her children not be raised that way and to except all races, religions, gender preferences etc. So I don’t buy it….Sorry!
I can’t stand to even look at them now. I’m just a poor white girl, and it breaks my heart to see the way they treat Candice. I started crying right along when Howard came for her. I couldn’t believe right there, CBS didn’t call all three of them mean girls to the DR. If I was in that house. you can bet they would have been caring me out the front door. I would have knocked the shit out of Aaryn, then those hair pieces that Genie wears. Helen go gotten….
FREEDOM SPEECH
This has nothing to do with freedom of speech
I have a question Bryan……In your opinion, is it ok for someone to spew hatred, or make derogatory remarks to or about someone in the name of “free speech”???? If in your opinion it is, my response would be simply to say that this is exactly why the world is the way it is today….full of anger and hatred towards our fellow man. When will it end? I can say that I don’t agree with gay/lesbian relationships…..that is my opinion, and is freedom of speech. However when I start making derogatory comments to or about them, that is no longer freedom of speech. So while you may be right that Aaryn is entilted to “freedom of speech”, it still does not give her the right to treat anyone the way she’s treated some of the BB HGs.
Sorry….I meant Byron not Bryan.
How many people who believe they should stay in the house would vote to reward that behavior with half a million $$$$$.
Good point bmom…. as a proud minority I would hope I would have responded like Candace (but not sure I could be as restrained when Aryan tossed the bed or if GM jumped up in my face) She showed a lot of grace. But the problem with saying it’s okay for them to stay, there is always that chance that they would win the 1/2 mil and that would seem like rewarding racism. That said (hoping they don’t win) I want them to stay to keep this behavior exposed. This is the ugly part of America and it is alive and well sorry to say.
Noooo, noo, noo! That’s why I’m lobbying for EVERYONE to watch and listen for the person who is the most likely to get her and GM OUT of the house and give them the MVP. If Helen keeps talking about taking Aaryn further in the game because she is a bigger target, I’m not voting MVP to Helen! Make sense? Spread the word!!
Lilly is exactly right. At this point it looks like they are staying….so what we have to do now is focus our attention on who needs MVP each week to get the ones off the show that you don’t want on there. You have to do your part and Vote! And for those that don’t want to do the texting thing…you can vote FREE on CBS website while voting is open 🙂
Wow, I don’t watch the live feeds and haven’t been able to watch “After Dark” for a week. I had been impressed with Helen’s game play, but if she is considering keeping Aaryn–that’s being a little too self centered. A move for the good of all at this point makes more sense to me.
Legally you probably cannot be removed from the show for being a racist. They can throw up all disclaimers that they want and be within their contract to keep GM and Aaryn on the show. Now if they got physical with each other, that would be like Willie and they’d be gone. Threats is also another legal word that could have them be gone. Why not PETITION CBS to rewrite the language of their contract to include racial slurs as a reason for expulsion. I’d love to see GM and Aaryn leave and Dave and Nick come back. Two for 2 Thursday while they are all standing around after the live eviction! But it probably won’t so I won’t get my hopes up. But this is something else that irks me as a person (let’s stop calling this thing a BLACK thing or a WHITE thing, it’s a HUMAN ISSUE and it affects all cultures and not just the ones that make tv history.) Also, the term bullying has been stretched to it’s very gills and now someone can claim bullying and be heard like it used to be with abuse and being heard. Hopefully our law makers will be very specific with the terminology when it comes to things like tv shows (reality shows, whatever is on tv) but if left up to the world there will be some with too broad a stroke and some with too small a stroke. And be sure to look for the connection to CBS (letter writing) on the Big Big Brother site. Cheers to BIG BIG BROTHER for even having this discussion!
They need to be kicked out. That way the next group coming in next year will know what they can and can not do. Its just game and there should not be room for what a person looks like.
Future seasons of house guests would have to be MORONS to act like this again. Two, may three, people have already lost their jobs, and the BB viewing public is vehemently against them. They are in for a very rude awakening when they get out of the house this year, and future house guests will see it.
I am floored that CBS would allow the racial comments to continue. Aaryn even said that her comments weren’t racial!!! I don’t think she has a clue!!! She needs sensitivity training…she has no empathy for anyone….is she a narcissist (only thinks of herself)? She is a physically a beautiful girl but it’s only external! I hope they broadcast it when she is told she has lost her job. Good for the modeling company for not tolerating her comments and thumbs down to the TV network for not addressing it up front!
The sad thing is that she may not even realize when she is making racist comments. I know – insane in this day in age! However, if she grew up around people who say these kinds of things all the time – she may not even realize how wrong it is! Now – with that being said, I still think she is a jerk and will gladly cheer when she is defeated in the game AND will gladly cheer when she gets her butt handed to her outside of the house.
One girl got up into Candice face. Is that not what happen to the guy who was kicked of the show once before. just asking?
Yes, Willie was kicked off last year. But not because he got in someones face (even though he did), but because he chest bumped the person whose face he was in. He PHYSICALLY put his hands on someone. If GM had touched Candace then she would be a goner but screaming at each other ,nose to nose, is not forbidden.
Thanks , I wasn’t sure, it happened so fast.
I am saddened that CBS-big brother has not thrown them off already. They are not playing the game. They are just bullying other contestants and being racially predjudiced. Do we not teach our children zero tolerance for bullying in our schools?
But CBS big brother allows this reprehensible behavior to be on full display.
Keep reading other comments through this blog post. There are learning opportunities for this season of BB. I wish they had 16 HGs of varying age and color, and ALL with decent character, whether they are loud or quiet, gay or straight. But I didn’t get that…. So I’m cheering for the few people in this house who DO have character. And hoping that the HGs will reap outside the house what they sowed inside–both bad AND good.
I agree and I’m shocked and disappointed with the shows decisions to do nothing. It’s almost like an approval of very mean spirited, bad behavior and hate. I am still trying to figure out why the bullies are still in the house. It makes one wonder what cbs real motive is….to be the first network that allow such crap?
Aaryn is very young an was obviously raised in a racism excepted environment, and the way she treated Candace, Helen, and everybody else in the house with her behavior there’s no excuse for it. How ever I believe that she is very immature an the comments don’t come from a intense inner racist place, but were just stupid comments that she may have made around family or friends back home who accepted that type of humor. I think it will be an awakening for Aaryn an hopefully change her life for the better. If I was going to be furious towards anybody it would be Aaryn’s Mother and Father who should be ashamed of themselves.
on one hand I would love to them removed from the show on the other I would love to see them evicted before the jury forms just so Julie might get the chance to question their actions face to face oh yeah and to tell them they are out of a job
Evil Dick needs to come in for a day and put them in their place. At least, he told people things to their face, not that I always agreed with him
They should be sent home. How can a station run ads about living right and treating people with respect and them let this go on. Send them home and let the others know why. I an surprise Jessie Jackson and Al have not stuck their noses in
Aaryn and GinaMarie should be kicked out. Not only for racism but for bullying, which should never have to be tolerated no matter your age.
I feel they should stay in the house. This is REALITY on reality tv! It doesn’t make it right or ok but it doesn’t get more real than this! I have a bi-racial daughter and I was hurt by the comments but this is the REAL WORLD and people should not try to eliminate it to make it go away they need to face it head on and make it better or it will NEVER change! I think CBS should continue to cover this on the broadcasts and it will be dealt with once they are evicted and have to face the world…literally!
Sure why not…let them all get to be on the jury and get $13,000…why not get rewarded for being a bigot and a bully…Hopefully Aaryn can go all the way and win..wouldn’t you all love that…then you wonder why the world is the way it is…Good Luck Aaryn or even better may GinaMarie…the 30 something who acts like she is back in high scool.
Somebody in this group get a job at CBS
First person of interest is who hired this group some very misguided soul?
Aaron and her cronies are just mean people and don’t deserve to be on a nationwide tv show.
I’m sick to my stomach just knowing what I might see happen next and pretty sure the battle for the money is crippled by the choice of players you have chosen.
Tuning out, thanks for the reminder that tv kills brain cells.
Being a white man. I am embarrassed by the comments being made by those girls. There is no room in this world for racism. And let alone to be on National TV. I’m not a fan of Howard’s, but I really respect his actions. He is in a lose, lose situation. Candace has game. But they should not have to put up with that. If Aaryn, Jer, GM or Kaitlin win. I may not watch again. Even thou it’s my favorite show.
ditto
I think she is just that ignorant, she see’s nothing wrong with what she said. Ignorance is bliss they say
If the remarks by Aaryn and GMarie were enough to fire them, then I strongly feel the should be sent home from the show now as well. With all the tension from them, it makes it hard to watch and enjoy the show.
