Julie Chen Addresses Racism On Big Brother 2013 On The Talk
|CBS put together a little montage last night on Big Brother 2013 which showed some of the racist and homophobic remarks that have been made by Aaryn and GinaMarie this season. While it did not address the issue completely, it did shine a light on things and it was something I did not expect CBS to do for the Big Brother 15 fans. Now, Big Brother host Julie Chen and her fellow co-hosts on The Talk addressed the issue today and Julie is not happy!

Julie started out by saying: “I have to be honest, it stung. Those things, in my opinion…it felt mean-spirited. It felt ugly and it felt mean.” Indeed it did and showed the true colors of who these girls really are, but it goes beyond Aaryn and GinaMarie. Spencer has gotten involved by calling Andy a fruit and Jessie joined in last night as well. What is wrong with these people?
Julie continued: “When I first found out that Aaryn, who is a 22-year-old girl, made anti-gay, anti-black and anti-Asian comments, I have to be honest, the Asian ones hit me the most. It stung. I took it personally. I’m a human being. The really sad part, it took me back to the ’70s when I was growing up in Queens and I was 7 years old getting bullied, being called a chink. I thought, ‘Wow I haven’t heard comments like that [in years]. The year is 2013. I felt ignorant, there are still people in the country who feel and act that way? Yes there [are]. It made me sad. She’s 22 and she’s college educated.”
I am intrigued to see what her co-hosts thought about it because Sheryl Underwood is never one to hold back her words, so I want her opinion! As soon as the video becomes available I will add it in, but I am so waiting for Aaryn to get evicted and have to face Julie Chen. That will be the highlight of Big Brother 2013 for me!!!

I happened to watch The Talk today (i never do). But i heard Julie was talking about this and i wanted to see what she had to say. I felt the same way towards Julie as i felt about Howard last night. It actually broke my heart. And made me even angrier than i already was. If by some chance Aaryn should win (God forbid), I want Julie to ask her if she will make a donation to a charity for equal rights (i’m being serious folks). And maybe a little community service in a neighborhood not of her choosing. And if she meets Julie soon…i hope they have a heart to heart like no other.
I am a Big Brother fan and have every year. This is worse year in Big Bro history. Not only are there a lot of racist comments what about the cheating when they were playing for HOH last night. We DVR it and played it back and Aaryn pass the cup off and not pour it into the other cup like they were told. A real disappointment. Too many young people on this year.
Aaryn should be disqualified from the HOH comp.
She cheated by not pouring the sauce into the other cup but exchanging the cup.
I’ve watched for years as well. I am also disappointed in the cast and agree that there is not enough variety in ages, backgrounds, and life experiences in the house. However, I don’t think the show should be cancelled or anyone expelled from the house. Let everyone reap what they sow; both inside and outside the game. Hopefully we will get a better cast with more diversity next season.

If u watch the playback carefully aryn is eyeballing the camera each time she and Jessie cheated by not pouring the syrup from one cup to the other. Jeremy blocked the camera with his hands and his back

from watching previous season and live feeds BB allows cheating if its to keep whom they want to go farther in the game. ooops not game since would be fined, change that to fixed reality tv show. allison already scripts how they want show to play out for bigger ratings, could be why the hatred is still in the house. remember aaryn is not the only that should be called out on the show.

I feel like Aaryn and Gina should be taken out of the house as well as spencer. It shouldn’t be tolerated for these hate riddled comments or jokes to be made. It is more offensive of the tooth brush into the commode. Remove them from the house immediately. I live in texas and there are tons of us that can’t wait to see Aaryn when she gets kicked out. Her parents should be so ashamed and disgusted that their daughter is so vile.

Racism does not equal Ratings …once someone understands that, the appropriate actions will take place. Until then the show will run as scheduled…unfortunate, but true.
I have to say i’ve been thinking about this and as painful as it is to watch…i think CBS should leave Aaryn in the house. I know we all want her to get her due. That’s human nature. But the more she spews her hateful comments, the more she hurts herself. Just think…if she had never applied to be on BB, her whole community would be thinking “what a sweet girl”. It’s the hidden hate filled heart that we have to worry about. It’s more dangerous than the hate that’s visible. Now we know what we’re dealing with in this “sweet little girl”. Not just us..as fans of BB, but her family, friends, coworkers, previous employers, potential employers and anyone else that scans the internet, watches tv or reads the news. She’s her own worst enemy and we don’t have to do a thing…but wait. She’s forgetting that whatever she says or does on tv or the internet is forever. At this point if she were evicted, she might be able to apologize and claim they were remarks made in the stress of the moment. But how many moments can one person have in 90 days? So i say, keep her there. Let her put the finishing touches on an already dead in the water future. As far as i’m concerned she’s her own worst enemy. She’s outed herself on national tv. Now let her put the finishing touches on her own self destruction.
I agree with you. I hate hearing what comes out or her mouth, but i believe after she is done with BB she will regret her actions and have major fallout to deal with. Serves her right.I just hate to claim that I come from the same state as Aaryn and Jeremy.
Me too I am from Texas and Aaryn and Jeremy do not no way shape or form represent the State of Texas..They are just so horrible I have found it really hard to watch my favorite show..But since I love this show so much I am hoping a good person makes it to the end..I am starting to like Judd a lot even tho I can.t understand a word he says(lol)..I wish they could find a way to keep elissa..Jeremy told everyone I am moving out of moving company if ya,ll don,t vote my way..I hope everyone gets tierd of his threats and votes to keep elissa..

This has got to be the worst season. I can’t beleive BB would put up with these comments. If Aaryn & Jeremy cheated then both should be disqualified ND IS bb does not want to take them off the make it were they cannot qualify for HOH or Veto for at least the next three competitions, and also they need to go on slop!!

I cant believe that Big Brother is allowing this to go on in the house. I feel that Aaryn should be taken out of the house for what she is starting and the others are going to follow. At least her modeling agency realizes it is wrong and wont put up with it. Big Brother should follow that example and kick her out.At least make them apologize to the world for what they have said. I’m mixed on whether these haters should be kicked out, simply because I don’t want them to be able to spin it and become martyrs. However, I do think that BB treats threats differently when it comes to the genders. Aaryn threatened Nick in a violent way when she said she would “cut off his junk in the middle of the night.” I know that wouldn’t happen since the cameras are always on, but the threat alone should not be tolerated. I think that if a male player made a similar comment it would be treated differently.

A complete cast of 35 and older! That I would enjoy watching. There’s something to be said for a little maturity. The alliances and scheming would be completely different. hmmm…
The whole BB team is a joke. They’re claiming they showed everything because it has to do with the story. What a joke. They only showed it because
of public outrage. Just today ….Amanda asked Jeremy what her boyfriend’s name is …he replied “Fa****”. Then he was called to the diary room. He comes out and then talks about the importance of gay rights. This actually happened. BB is so comical …its so obvious how the producers are trying to hide this.
BB is telling HG to watch these comments then of course as with Jeremy he comes out and supports gay rights. guess BB wants certain HGs to look favorable in viewers eyes but live feeders know the truth. their true colors will be hidden for the sake of ratings even though HG are hurt by the comments and hatred spewed through the house on a daily basis. it is terrible to see HGs who berated others all grouped together in yard with the ones they picked on because BB wants to show a perfect,friendly atmosphere. CBS did more harm by not acting on the anti racist, ant-gay and anti asian comments last week and is a shame that viewers, the ones who keep your show alive have to take the 1st step in ending this cruel behavior. Julie Chen was hurt by comments, just think how the HGs feel being in situation 24/7. BB rewards racists and bullies. I wouldn’t want these people in my house so why is BB allowing it in theirs?
After what happen to Puala Deen for her comments, this girl should be at least taken off the show. Until that happens I will not be watching the show anymore. She should be held to the same standards as every one else. Leaving her on the show is basicly say it’s ok for her to say what ever she wants.

Being college educated doesn’t mean you have a good heart and class. You can still be educated trash. I am so disappointed in the discretion that BB used in selecting their house guests this year. I stopped watching the 3rd episode. These people are so arrogant and vulgar and evil, I don’t need to waste 3 evenings a week watching trash such as this. This may be the last season of Big Brother if they don’t do something to put an end to this now. There is no redemption for aaryn nor the little pretty boy (don’t know his name-the guy that thinks he rules the house w/ the brown hair.) It’s putrid. After the over reaction to Paula Deen and the severe punishment that followed before she was even tried, this girl (aaryn) is much, much worse, and BB should be held accountable for keeping her after hearing the vulgar, crude, insulting comments that came out of her mouth. I’m done this season w/ BB. Many of my friends have decided to stop watching it at least this year, as well. Don’t subject your viewing audience to filthy, ignorant trash like that. That’s NOT entertainment. Shame on BB for letting it go this far!!!!
Aaryn needs to be evicted from the house on Thursday night episode for her racial slurs and nasty biggotry behavior.

It is an outrage that BB has not removed these people from the house. If they are not removed at the live evictions I will never watch another episode ever again. Hope people protest outside CBS studio.
Okay, I’m Aaryon’s age and I’m disgusted. It makes me realize how naive and immature she really is. I have a good bit of growing up to do. I’m young and so is she but that is not an excuse for those things. It’s about being a decent human being and from what I’ve seen, if she is able to judge people just by their race than she is far from being one. As for CBS getting her out of the house, no, let her stay. If she stays and keeps making those remarks, then when she does get out, hopefully by being evicted, then let her have hell to pay in the real world.
